Undeniably, Animal Crossing: New Horizons helped a lot of people through the early part of the COVID-19 pandemic when everyone was forced to take refuge in their homes from dusk to dawn. Well, as it turns out, it seems even such a massive success as New Horizons has an expiration date and that date is kinda reasonable.
As spotted by a Reddit user, the game itself warned them to close and restart the game after setting a date with the cap being December 31, 2060.
Feasibly, this means Nintendo will shutter New Horizons in 2061. Now, Nintendo is pretty awful at maintaining games years into its lifespan, but actually, this is refreshing, if this will actually be how long Nintendo plans on keeping the game running. After all, we’re talking generations from now, this is at least two to three console generations if we’re talking other consoles like the PlayStation line.
If you’re still playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons on the Switch up until the point of the game going the way of the wind, congrats on your dedication.
